E-learning to date has largely been a transferral
of traditional classroom-based methods into web-based virtual classrooms.
Learning takes place in a restricted space with a restricted number
of learners for a restricted period of time. This learning, and
any tacit knowledge captured, is usually then archived and is inaccessible
to the next intake of learners.
This presentation will look at a new qualification offered by the
Canterbury Tertiary Alliance that is attempting to break this mould.
The qualification aims to build an ongoing community of practice
where both students and other subject specialists have continued
access to the knowledge captured and created as students move through
their learning pathway. The philosophy behind the qualification
will be examined as well as the system developments that were undertaken.
A walk through the learning space that has been created will also
be included.
