Learning at work - a collective activity: tales from the TEC funded Learning Representatives Project
Category:
Paper
Description:
This session makes only a passing reference to e-Learning, but explores the tension between individual recognition of learning (with learners as competitors) and learning as a collective collaborative experience. Material for this session is drawn from a series of seminars of working people who have welcomed the opportunity to learn at work as a group activity. Reference is made to resistance from companies to the concept as it conflicts with the process of selecting people for learning opportunities as a management prerogative involving individual reward and recognition.
Don Farr manages the NZ Learning Representatives project, a spin-off from the British original. He has 30 years of involvement with trade union education, apprenticeship, workplace learning and health and safety training.
