Title of session:

Lecture notes online: just e-desks-in-rows? Exploring whether e-Learning leads to constructivist teaching practice

Category:

Conversation

Description:

Desks in rows (or not) is something of an in joke at our institution, and a metaphor for teaching approaches.  Many writers suggest the e-learning is the high road to constructivist, student-centred teaching and learning, while other research suggests that it changes nothing. In the spirit of "Moving learners and educational design" I would like to engage in conversation about this issue. It is a major theme of a Master of Education thesis that has been occupying my attention for the last 18 months. I will begin the conversation with a short presentation of some of my findings.

Biography:

John works at NMIT on the Flexible Learning Team and as Programme Coordinator for the Certificate in Adult Teaching where his mission is to provoke good teaching practice and innovative approaches to curriculum design, teaching and learning.
