This is a beginner’s workshop, focusing on the teaching and learning side of this topic, not the technology.
Increasingly, social software (such as blogs and wikis) is being used in formal taught courses. If not carefully guided, the openness and social nature of these tools can work against the formality of course objectives and assessment.
During this workshop we will consider blogs, wikis and RSS as they can be used in formal taught courses. This will include some hands on activities and appropriate case studies, focusing on setting up the activities and appropriate tutor/facilitator attitudes.
Depending on interest, we will then consider:
- Assessment issues and rubrics
- Management of personal identity in a distributed world
- Reflective practice using blogs: different or the same?
- Blogs vs forums
- Should tutors/lecturers Blog?
