First Nature, First Learner

Presenters: Alex Matthews & members from the Midnight Assembly Charitable Trust Community
Role:

Chairman

Organisation:

Midnight Assembly Charitable Trust Midnight Assembly

Category:

Presentation/Workshop

Description:

'First Nature, First Learner' will explore the contrast between contemporary generations who see IT as normative, and older generations who learn IT through conventional education. The aim is to find complimentary differences that can be used to enrich our understanding of this educational process, and use it then practically to make IT learning more fluid, organic, and playful.  Key ideas to be explored will be 'the importance of tutuing', progressive implementations of new technologies, and the critical aspect of peer communities in facilitating high level understandings.  The workshop will have interactive as well as presentation elements, and will double as a research event for the Midnight Assembly to use in its future projects.

Biography:

Alex Matthews is the Chairman of Midnight Assembly an organisation which is seeking to pioneer new innovative technologies and ideas in online community building. Education and accessibility are the main interests in our vision for an open, creative, non-commercial community with self-improvement and growth at its heart. Most of his experience in this regard comes from day-dreaming about how the virtual world could be used to create, inspire, inform, and help lead social progress within society. He has also spent lots of time monitoring developments in the media on the fringes of hardware and software development.
