Description:

For the last 12 months Midland Learning has been investigating the creation of a flexible environment to deliver mandatory training on a number of topics. After a review the learning management system Moodle was selected to begin pilot testing.  However, the selection of a “management system”, although critical in the monitoring of participant progress, in mandatory training is only the beginning of the Midland Learning journey. How bland material could be presented to learners was of key importance. Initial explorations were undertaken to investigate how content could be presented.  Given the mandatory nature of the material it was critical the content was designed in an engaging way that allowed results to be captured. Two authoring tools were chosen to create engaging content. The first, eXe was used to in the creation of visually appealing, engaging, structured learning sequences and the second, hot-potatoes was used to create a variety of interactive monitored assessment tasks.  This presentation will illustrate, through practical examples, the Midland Learning experience.
