Sustainable eLearning capacity development is proving to be an elusive goal in the current higher education context and leadership in the area a complex role. Leaders of eLearning innovation may not be in a position of formal authority within their institutions, yet they have to lead change on many fronts because of the pioneering nature of their work and to meet their employers’ expectations. This interactive presentation and discussion session is facilitated by a panel of eLearning leaders from across the NZ tertiary sector. These leaders occupy very different roles in universities, polytechnics and PTEs. The common factor they all share is a commitment to beneficial, technology supported educational change within and across institutions. The panel will present a framework for leading sustainable eLearning capacity development and engage participants in a discussion about the roles, attributes, challenges and strategies used by effective leaders in this context.
The eLearning leadership capacity development framework was developed in collaboration with other eLearning leaders and practitioners, The Leadership Institute at Auckland University Business School, Gerry Lefoe (University of Wollongong) and Winnie O’Grady (University of Auckland).
The purpose of the framework is to define the concept and methods used to lead sustainable eLearning capacity development initiatives.
