This panel presentation will discuss the development of the Indigenous online initiative ‘kauapamaori.com’ (refer www.kaupapamaori.com ).

Kaupapa Maori.com was developed to support the understanding of Kaupapa Maori pedagogy and methodologies.  The project is an Indigenous online development that focuses on Kaupapa Maori theory, research and action.  As such it creates Indigenous space online that affirms and supports the articulation of Maori cultural philosophies, knowledge and practices.

Biographies:

Professor Sarah-Jane Tiakiwai (Te Rarawa, Waikato, Ngäti Awa, Te Arawa)
Sarah-Jane is the overall Project Coordinator for the kaupapamaori.com project. Sarah-Jane has extensive research skills and has been actively involved across the spectrum of Maori Education. Sarah-Jane has taken on a new role in Te Whare Wänanga o Äwanuiärangi as the Academic Director. Her role is to ensure all aspects of quality management and to coordinate the organisations that are involved in the various components of the project.

Maryann Lee (Tainui) : Consultant and Developer Kaupapamaori.com project
Maryann Lee specializes in e-learning and web development.  She is the Director of Rautaki Ltd, an educational resource development company that provides both video and audio production, web and curriculum development. Maryann also works part-time as an educational designer in Faculty of Education, University of Auckland.   Maryann’s role within the Kaupapa Mäori project has been the facilitation of training workshops, providing e-learning advice and project coordination of the development of websites.

Leonie Pihama (Te Ätiawa, Ngä Mähanga a Tairi, Ngäti Mähanga)
Leonie is Co-Director of Mäori And Indigenous Analysis Ltd and acts as the Research manager. She brings expertise in Kaupapa Mäori research and production to the projects undertaken by MAIA. She has had extensive involvement in Maori Education and is actively involved with Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi and is a well regarded researcher and academic. Leonie was part of a team that completed a major literature review on Maori pedagogies for ITPNZ which is being utilised as a framework for exploring Maori e-learning pedagogies. She is currently the for the Hohua Tutengaehe Post Doc Fellow through the Health Research Council.
