What are our issues with the notion of eLearning 2.0?

Presenter: Leigh Blackall
Role:

Programme Developer

Organisation:

Otago Polytechnic

Category:

Conversation

Description:

eLearning 2.0 stems from the social media trend known as Web 2.0. It is a change in perspective on eLearning, based on the significant change in the way media is created and consumed on the Internet  (through the use of blogs, wikis, video and audio online). Sociologically speaking, Web 2.0 is credited with enabling a participatory culture. This has brought with it many challenges to personal, family and political arenas. Educational and academic Institutions faced now with the idea of eLearning 2.0 have had a difficult time consolidating this media shift, some electing to censor, filter and block it, others questioning its educational relevance, others adopting it in seemingly reckless abandon. This discussion will attempt to draw out diverse and competing ideas on eLearning 2.0 and its place in education today.

Biography:
