Do authentic contextual ICT professional development experiences foster and support teacher ICT skill development to a greater degree than non contextual skills based ICT learning experiences?

Description:

Effective and meaningful ICT professional development is key for the provision of digitally literate teachers.  However, It is clear that simply introducing technology to the educational process is not enough.

In this session we will investigate and explore the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPCK) model as a means of delivering ICT professional development experiences to teachers. This model argues that effective teacher ICT professional development must be conducted in the contexts of technology, content and pedagogy.

Biography:

Nick works at CPIT as the institution's eLearning Designer/Staff Developer. Nick joined CPIT in October 2005 before which he worked as a Teacher of ICT at the Christchurch South Learning Centre and as a Curriculum Developer for Natcoll Design Technology. Nick is currently completing a Masters in Education and is interested in exploring and measuring the impacts of the use of educational interactive technologies on student learning and best practice in ICT professional development for teachers.
